Liberty University paintball seeks first national championship this weekend

The Liberty University Paintball team is heading to the National Collegiate Paintball Association (NCPA) championships this week ranked No. 1. Liberty has finished fourth at the national championships the past two years, but is eager for victory after completing their season 8-0.

“This is our year, this is our chance,” head coach Todd Hoglund said of his, and the players’ attitude going into nationals.

Liberty is the only college in the NCPA to have its own on-campus paintball fields. Hoglund shared that the fields have been beneficial in creating a “home field advantage” this season and providing the opportunity to host events at the university.

The team departs for Lakeland, Fla. early on Thursday morning and will play a few preliminary matches on Friday before starting tournament play on Saturday.

“I want my team to play the hard-nosed paintball that we know how to play,” Hoglund said when asked what he is looking for out of the team.

All of the matches will be available via live-streaming video on the NCPA website, and the championship will be aired on Fox College Sports at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Paintball is one of 29 sports offered as part of Liberty’s Club Sports program.

The hit NBC alternative series “America’s Got Talent” will have a fresh new perspective from the East Coast as the summer’s top-rated series has found its brand new home for its seventh season, broadcasting live two nights a week from Prudential Hall at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) beginning in July. The Carroll Center, MAB Community Services and National Braille Press have teamed up to participate in a 5K Blindfold Challenge which will take place Sunday April 15th, the day before the Boston Marathon. Each organization has been allotted 7 Bibs to run in the sold out Boston Athletic Association 5K. To claim their bib, each participant agrees to raise a minimum of 00 for their organization. It will be another exciting event with approximately 6,000 runners running in total. After the race, the three organizations will have a post-race reception and breakfast at the Lenox Hotel.

The Carroll Center is looking for runners to represent and fund raise. Training will be provided. Each Blindfold Challenge participant will run with a guide and the race will start and end at the Marathon finish line in Copley Square. The Carroll Center is encouraging people to be a part of the Boston Marathon weekend. They recommend participants to create their own personal fundraising web page at http://www.firstgiving.com.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has confirmed that the Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has become a licensee of London 2012.

GO11 DEN, GB12 ROW and RUN 100M available to highest bidder

The DVLA becomes one of the last licensees to be appointed before the Games and will be offering London 2012 themed personalised registration number plates.

Members of the public will be able to purchase London 2012 registrations from the DVLA website http://www.dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk and at a three day auction at City Hall in London on 7-9 June 2012.

Fans at the auction will also have the chance to buy an official box set to accompany their number plate.

GO11 DEN, GB12 ROW and RUN 100M are just a few of the 1,750 registrations on sale at the auction and are expected to be a big hit with motorists and sporting fans alike.

LOCOG Commercial Director, Chris Townsend commented on the appointment, ‘We are delighted to welcome the DVLA as the latest addition to the London 2012 merchandise programme. I’m sure that this London 2012 themed range of personalised registration number plates will really strike a note with fans of the Games.’

It is estimated that the London 2012 merchandise programme will generate more than £1 billion worth of sales, contributing more than £80m to the staging of the Games. By Games time an estimated 10,000 merchandise items will be on sale in the UK.
