Health and Wellness Guide, “How To Plan A Successful Medical Tourism Trip” Now Available in Bookstores Everywhere and Online in Paperback and Kindle

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) November 01, 2011

Described as “the handbook for the American medical insurance refugee”, Traveling 4 Health & Retirement has released the only definitive guide by 12 medical tourism experts who explain how to safely access great quality medical care at 30 cents on the dollar, OUTSIDE as well as WITHIN the USA.

“How To Plan a Successful Medical Tourism Trip” is the brainchild of Ilene Little, a pioneering blog writer for the medical tourism and retirement industries. Buy the book in paperback or on Kindle, and get help from this interactive, consumer guide.

“A medical insurance refugee is a person who cannot afford the REAL cost of health insurance and health care in their local community” says Little.

“Our audience is the 50 something generation at the tail end of the baby boomer group. This publication is of critical importance to people in the pre-Medicare eligibility decade of their life, as that is the time when the cumulative effects of chronic health conditions require costly medical intervention” says Little.

“This 50 something generation has been disproportionately affected by the economic crisis of the last four years. We hear from many people who were restructured out of work, lost their group medical insurance and simply cannot afford the cost of individual health insurance policies.

This generation has seen their savings and net worth depleted due to prolonged unemployment or underemployment and substantially decreased property values.

These are medical insurance refugees in desperate need of practical solutions whose inability to afford meaningful insurance, if at all, drives them to consider treatment abroad at significant cost savings.

“How to Plan A Successful Medical Tourism Trip” is a survival guide for medical insurance refugees. It provides practical tips for planning and managing medical treatment out of the country at savings of up to 70% compared to the same in the USA,” adds Little.

The book is the culmination of four years of research, and countless interviews with patients and 12 leading subject experts.

The interactive format reflects the significance of the Internet as the great equalizer of access to information. “The Internet is in many ways, the world’s largest doctor’s waiting room”, concludes Ms. Little. Medication Adherence Solution Mobilizes ?Fun, Engaging? Platform With Launch of New App

Medication Adherence Solution Mobilizes “Fun, Engaging” Platform With Launch of New App

Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) November 01, 2011

HealthPrize Technologies, an innovative medication adherence solutions company, today launched its mobile app for iPhone and Android, making it the first of its kind to provide an integrated platform of creative rewards, games, education, and competitions designed to improve medication adherence.

“We know that taking medications as prescribed is not always top of mind, especially when life gets in the way and there are other priorities,” said Katrina Firlik, MD, HealthPrize Chief Medical Officer. “We designed this app specifically to add value to the medication taking process; as a way not only to earn rewards, but also to serve as a daily reminder and to enhance intrinsic motivation through the medical education offered.”

Unlike traditional adherence solutions that provide one-size-fits-all interventions, such as reminders in the form of emails, texts, phone calls, or devices, HealthPrize engages consumers in a fun and more comprehensive way through a unique rewards and education platform. HealthPrize’s approach to medication adherence leverages modern insights from behavioral economics, gaming dynamics, and consumer marketing. The HealthPrize platform, both online and now mobile, offers an innovative solution to the otherwise avoidable 0 billion in annual healthcare spending spawned by the complications that arise from chronic disease as a result of medication non-adherence.

“Clearly, any company that wants to maximize their engagement with patients—consumers—these days has to go mobile,” added Tom Kottler, HealthPrize CEO. “You need to meet people where they are, and they’re not always at their desks. Our mobile app has all the key features of the online version, allowing participants to enjoy all the benefits of the program from their smartphone.”

The HealthPrize app is available for use by registered HealthPrize participants, and is currently being used by participants in an asthma and COPD pilot study in collaboration with RealAge, a leading online wellness company. Preliminary findings at the four-month mark have demonstrated high engagement rates, which are expected to rise with adoption of the mobile app, making it easier for participants to engage on the go.

Cignal Media Announces Strategic Relationship with PriceGrabber, Improving Cameras Website

DigPhoto.org, a camera info site, strategically partners with PriceGrabber

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) October 31, 2011

Cignal Media, announced a strategic partnership with PriceGrabber for their informational site dedicated to digital photography and digital cameras. Digphoto.org is a website for both consumers and professionals, which highlights camera products, specifications, relevant news, rumors and more. The site was launched in 2011, by a staff of journalists and bloggers with a history of experience with both digital and film photography. As of August, the site experienced a dramatic uptick in traffic, according to Compete.com.

“This is a perfectly timed strategic partnership for us, we are rapidly developing a loyal audience with our qualitative content.” Said Chad Shmukler, Cignal Media’s Founder, “The PriceGrabber catalogue is huge and, paired with digphoto.org’s extensive digital camera database, will provide our visitors with a terrific comparison shopping tool.” Shmukler added, “in the coming months digphoto.org will be launching a comprehensive camera lens database as well, and PriceGrabber’s catalogue will provide our readers with valuable shopping comparison tools there as well.”

Digphoto.org Visitors will gain:

Digphoto.org typically discusses popular brands like Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, Sony and Canon cameras. Recently they have been a voice of anticipation for HD cameras and stoked the rumor mill with pre-release information around the Canon 1D X. DigPhoto visitors currently have to leave the site to shopping portals to begin the shopping cycle for a purchase. PriceGrabber, the comparison shopping engine, considers their Cameras section to be among the most utilized of their 26 shopping categories and list the Canon EOS rebel t3i, and Nikon D5 among the most searched for camera products. PriceGrabber normally is positioned as a site that a DigPhoto visitor would visit downstream (after leaving the site), according to HitWise data. The strategic relationship could possibly bring price comparisons on over 275,000 camera products to the DigPhoto site, assisting visitors in purchasing decisions.

Shmukler says, “Obviously from a business perspective there is great upside for us, but the real motivator in this decision was about passion for our users and improving DigPhoto as a top destination site for the photography community.”

KPA Expands Offerings with Online Safe Driver Training

KPA Expands Offerings with Online Safe Driver Training

Lafayette, CO (PRWEB) November 01, 2011

KPA offers a new online training course that teaches safe driving habits to workers who are required to drive as part of their job. The course trains car salesmen, valets, and shuttle drivers how to increase the number of safety precautions they take every time they get behind the wheel. It uses multiple teaching strategies including attention-grabbing videos, interactive experiences, and a series of lessons that adjust to an individual’s learning pace.

Vice President of Products and Development at KPA, Eric Schmitz, calls the training course “a new twist on a classic lesson.” He explains that the course moves along at the learner’s pace, which is important for retention because “today’s online learners are very comfortable with interactive technology. Many adult learners are used to computer games that move at the player’s pace, so it makes sense to take important content, such as life-saving training courses, and present it in a style that they are comfortable with.”

Learners advance through five different sections. They start with a self-assessment of their current driving habits. From there, the course moves through the basic safety issues around driving. It includes driving distractions, accidents, planning before you drive, defensive driving, and concludes with practical applications. The entire course takes the learner from knowing what it takes to be a safe driver and helps them internalize the lessons and apply what they learned every time they get behind the wheel.

In a voluntary survey, 125 participants completed the course and rated their experience. Ninety-five percent responded that the interactive elements in the training are helpful for learning, and 92 percent responded that they will apply what they learned within a week of completing the course.

The videos and situations featured in the training sessions are built around real-world events that face employees who are required to drive as part of their job. The course uses all of these teaching strategies to focus on today’s most important issues. For example, it reinforces the importance of not texting while driving, the course goes over how to perform evasive maneuvering, and teaches learners how to maximize fuel efficiency by planning routes in advance.

Ultimate Medical Academy (UMA) Awards Healthcare Degrees and Diplomas to Approximately 500 Students in September Graduation Ceremony

Ultimate Medical Academy (UMA) Awards Healthcare Degrees and Diplomas to Approximately 500 Students in September Graduation Ceremony

Tampa, Fla. (PRWEB) November 01, 2011

Ultimate Medical Academy (UMA) recently hosted the largest graduation ceremony in its history, awarding healthcare degrees and diplomas to approximately 500 students. The event was held Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Florida State Fairgrounds and was attended by more than 1,000 family members and friends.

UMA offers a variety of campus-based and online healthcare programs, with two locations in Florida and an online campus accessible to students anywhere. Among the graduates who walked in the September ceremony were hundreds who attended ground-based courses on UMA’s Tampa and Clearwater campuses, as well as many who attained their healthcare education online.

Steve Kemler, CEO of Ultimate Medical Academy, welcomed students, families, friends and staff to the graduation ceremony. Many of the attendees had traveled great distances for the event, including one student’s family who flew from Kenya. Addressing the graduates, Mr. Kemler said, “Look around you. There are people from many different backgrounds, from different states, from different countries and from different cultures. But you all share a common bond – a commitment to get ahead, to make a difference, to help others.”

Graduates of UMA’s degree programs earned an Associate of Science (AS) in one of several allied health fields. Those who completed diploma programs – ranging from Basic X-Ray Technician with Medical Office Procedures to Medical Billing and Coding training – received a UMA certificate in their respective healthcare discipline. In addition to awarding academic credentials, UMA prepares students to sit for healthcare certification exams from a number of professional organizations and state licensing agencies.

Ann Marie Dinocento, a graduate of UMA’s online Medical Administrative Assistant diploma program, had enthusiastic praise for her healthcare education, echoing the sentiments of other alumni who have shared Ultimate Medical Academy reviews. “My experience at Ultimate Medical Academy has been wonderful. Whenever I needed help, someone was there for me. My Learner Services advisor has been my support, my rock,” Dinocento said. Reflecting on her accomplishment, she remarked, “To be graduating – it’s amazing. It’s a wonderful feeling that I achieved my goal. I am a UMA success story!”

UMA currently features nearly a dozen diploma programs, four of which may be completed online. In addition, most of UMA’s associate programs are offered online. Among the AS curricula available through UMA’s online campus are the Health Information Technology degree, Healthcare Management degree, and Medical Billing and Coding degree, as well as several concentrations in the Health Sciences degree.

The availability of online healthcare degrees – along with a variety of special benefits for active-duty servicemembers, guard, reserves, veterans and eligible spouses and dependents – recently earned UMA a spot in the Military Friendly Schools® listing published by G.I. Jobs. The respected military publication recognizes the top 20% of universities, colleges and trade schools nationwide that support military education and have military-friendly policies. In fact, UMA’s recent graduates include a number of students currently serving in or retired from the U.S. Armed Forces.

Nanjing 2014 Bounding Ahead as 2nd Coordination Commission Visit Comes to a Close

Nanjing 2014 Bounding Ahead as 2nd Coordination Commission Visit Comes to a Close

Nanjing 2014 bounding ahead as 2nd Coordination Commission visit comes to a close

(PRWEB) October 28, 2011

The International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s Coordination Commission for the second Youth Olympic Games in 2014 today concluded a successful second visit to the host city of Nanjing, China.

Chaired by IOC member Alexander Popov, the Coordination Commission was impressed with the progress made by the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (NYOGOC) since its last visit in January 2011. The General Foundation Planning stage has now been completed, establishing the vision, milestones and organisational plans to deliver the Games in three years’ time.

The NYOGOC team is now fully operational with all 17 departments established and 43 functional-area leads in place and a volunteer recruitment programme also initiated. In addition, the team is benefitting from the ongoing support of the Chinese Olympic Committee and municipal, regional and central governments.

Several milestones have also been achieved in the last six months. They include the launch of the colourful and vibrant Nanjing 2014 emblem, the initiation of the marketing programme, the finalisation of the Culture and Education Programme concepts and the laying of the first foundations of the Youth Olympic Village.

Construction started on the Youth Olympic Village in September and the estimated completion of this project is April 2014. Environmental sustainability will be integrated into every stage of the project, including green technology, geothermal and solar energy and rainwater collection. Incorporated into the structure will be athlete training facilities and a planned Village square that will serve as the central location for Culture and Education Programme activities, one of the key successes of Singapore 2010. The 5,900 athletes and team officials will reside in the Village for the duration of the Games.

Commission Chairman Popov said: “There have been some major developments since our last visit earlier this year, which is testament to the efficiency and professionalism of the Nanjing Organising Committee. The Nanjing 2014 team has truly embraced the spirit of the Youth Olympic Games and its vision is now becoming a reality.”

Yang Weize, Executive President of NYOGOC, said: “Over the last six months we have been improving and optimising the organisational structure at NYOGOC and strengthening the image of Nanjing 2014. As we approach the 1,000-days-to-go mark, we are confident in the steady development of our preparations to deliver a unique and amazing event.”

Since confirmation earlier this year of the Nanjing 2014 sports programme, the competition and venue planning has seen significant progress, with 25 venues for the 28 sports confirmed. In addition, 9 of the 28 International Federations have visited Nanjing, with more visits scheduled over the course of 2012. A decision has also been made by the FIVB to introduce beach volleyball for the first time at the Youth Olympic Games.

A fully integrated communications strategy has been drafted that takes advantage of social and digital channels and initiatives to reach out to young audiences while leveraging key media partnerships.

John W. Baumgarten Architect Wins AIA Long Island Healthcare Award For Renovations at Glengariff?s Pratt Pavilion, Glen Cove, NY

John W. Baumgarten Architect Wins AIA Long Island Healthcare Award For Renovations at Glengariff’s Pratt Pavilion, Glen Cove, NY

Jericho, N.Y. (PRWEB) October 31, 2011

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Long Island Chapter presented its 2011 Archi Award Commendation for Health Care to John W. Baumgarten Architect, P.C, for its renovation of the Glengariff Healthcare Center’s Pratt Pavilion for Rehabilitation and Healing in Glen Cove, N.Y.

The AIA presented the Jericho-based Baumgarten firm, one of Long Island’s premier architectural design firms, with this prestigious award for the firm’s work at the one-time Gold Coast manse after a juried competition. The award was presented at the AIA chapter’s 47th Annual Awards Celebration on Oct. 19 at Oheka Castle, an event space in Huntington, N.Y.

“It is very rewarding for our work to be recognized by our peers,” said John Baumgarten, the firm’s president.

“The design for the renovation of the Pratt Pavilion embraces a sense of style normally associated with a fine hotel. It also takes advantage of its unique setting to provide a positive, resident centered care environment that respects the building’s past while embracing state-of- the- art technology,” Baumgarten said. “The new Pratt Pavilion synthesizes proud history, architectural design and a passion to deliver the highest caliber rehab experience in an extraordinary setting.”

The award was all the more significant, because Baumgarten is a graduate of the Pratt Institute School of Architecture in Brooklyn, which was founded by Frederic Pratt, whose former home is now the Pratt Pavilion.

“Our design goal was simple: to merge five-star luxury and gentility with cutting edge health care and technology,” said Baumgarten. “We carried this theme throughout the newly appointed lobby and amenity areas and into the new therapy spaces.”

The Baumgarten firm, a major player in the design of healthcare facilities throughout the tri-state area for many years, encountered a myriad of challenges in remodeling the mansion.

The original building, which dates to 1912 and sits on12 acres on the shore of the Long Island Sound, was converted to a skilled nursing facility in the 1970s. The property was sold to its current owner, Sanjay Ahuja, in 2008. The project started with the carefully engineered removal of a 2-foot thick brick-bearing wall in order to expand the building’s main lobby. The removal of this circa 1912 construction involved a logistically sophisticated sequence of bracing, shoring and underpinning, along with the threading in of new supporting steel to carry the floors above. The next phase of the project involved the conversion of an underutilized dining room into a physical therapy suite modeled after an upscale health club.

As a result of the renovation, the lobby became a significant focal point with its open and airy feeling inviting residents/patients and their families to a comfortable and warm area to socialize and congregate. “The balance of the ground floor public and amenity spaces bridge the gap between the historic mansion and the modern health club,” Baumgarten said.

The two-story lobby features inlaid marble floors and wood-paneled wainscoting that pays homage to the building’s history, Baumgarten said. The existing grand lobby stair with its ornamental railings and ceilings were preserved, as was an original marble fireplace. Capturing abutting office suites and creating distinct seating areas defined by inlaid carpeting, further expanded the lobby footprint. “Neutral lobby walls allow vibrant artwork, furnishings and a large aquarium to give the space punch,” Baumgarten noted.

The AIA Archi Award jury praised the project for creating a “bright environment“ and for its “interesting use of furnishings.”
